After obtaining his BMus (cum laude) and MMus (cum laude) in music performance from Stellenbosch University under Suzanne Martens, David furthered his studies in Belgium. From its inception in Soweto, ARCO provided regular high-level teacher training delivered by Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) staff members and visiting tutors from leading institutions. Whilst participating as ARCO teachers, RBC students were introduced to methods of Paul Rolland, Paul Harris, Essential String Method, and weekly online training through Colourstrings Minifiddlers. RBC students gained experience in all aspects of group teaching by assisting Louise Lansdown along with co-founders. Project Manager Alistair Rutherford and later Teaching and Learning Manager Claudia Dehnke organised the programme of teacher training for the duration of ARCO’s nine-year collaboration with the Morris Isaacson Centre for Music in Soweto (2015-2024).
In 2023 ARCO moved its UK base from Birmingham to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where Louise Lansdown is now Assistant Head of Strings. Both ARCO India and ARCO Prince Albert are supported by the RNCM and Elliot Tingley, current Primary ARCO Teacher based in Prince Albert is also ARCO’s Teaching and Learning Manager at the RNCM. Elliot manages an active timetable of mentoring and training RNCM students currently teaching on the project.
ARCO has received recognition for its innovative cross- disciplinary and multi- cultural pedagogy work, with a nomination for a Guardian Internationalisation Award, amongst others.
